Southampton City Art Gallery, Southampton
Richard wrote in his 1939 diary:
1st July: ‘Took painting of 'Robin Hood’s Town’ in to Southampton Art Gallery for the ‘Adult Education’ exhibition. Saw Conran [the gallery director] and had a talk with him.
There seems to have been at least three exhibitions with this title organised by the London based British Institute of Adult Education in cooperation with local councils and galleries. This show involved the Southampton Education Authority and Southampton City Art Gallery, but there are also records of Richard contributing a different work to an exhibitions of the same title at the Art and Technical Institute in Morecambe a month earlier, and at the City Literary Institute in London later in the year.
