The Fine Art Society, London
https://www.thefineartsociety.comIn light of the recent new and renewed interest in Modern British art over the past couple of years, it is time to revisit its key figures. In Modern British 30, we present 30 works by 25 different artists, from familiar names such as Edward Bawden, Walter Richard Sickert, John Piper, and Ben Nicholson, to lesser-known figures including Kenneth Rowntree, Eric Kennington, and Sir William Gillies whose work equally commands attention.
The works are presented chronologically to draw a visual narrative of British art through the first half of the twentieth century that places each work amongst its direct contemporaries. The exhibited works trace the history of Britain from 1900 to 1960, from the Edwardian era through two world wars and into the post-war and post-modern world.
