This work, a view of an oil refinery in Wales, was commissioned in 1957 or early 1958 by Esso Petroleum for the cover of a magazine.
See also another commission for Esso of their Fawley refinery just down the road from Richard's home in The New Forest: A Refinery Scene (The Seven Sisters) (1959-60) .
Later Richard's son Crispin, a talented photographer, took some iconic photos of sheep grazing inside the Fawley refinery.
