The objects in this picture are all very memorable for me. The Staffordshire figures stood on our mantelpiece for many years. Dad liked picking up things like this in junk shops usually with some fatal flaw like a crack or chip which made the piece affordable. The decanter with Double Century sherry in it was passed down in the family as was the chalice. The disciples on its sides were painted by my great uncle August (who later emigrated to America but died on the journey there). Dad liked picking up things like this in junk shops usually with some fatal flaw like a crack or chip which made the piece affordable. The decanter with Double Century sherry in it was passed down in the family as was the chalice. The disciples on its sides were painted by my great uncle August (who later emigrated to America but died on the journey there). This chalice developed a fault in the firing process so another one had to be made for the church and this one remained in the family possession, now owned by one of Richard's grandsons.
