This painting was bought by Prior and Queenie Lovelock directly from Richard in 1930.  Prior Lovelock was a master at Bradford Grammar School at the same time as Richard studied there. When Richard's family moved to Ilkley in 1921, both families got to know each other. Prior and Queenie encouraged Richard's painting from the beginning, buying several works through the 1920s and 30s.

See Richard's portrait of Prior below.

Comments:

Hello! So wonderful to see all Richard's (known!) work so beautifully catalogued. How prolific he was. And how talented. This painting, which I (very happily) own, is not on canvas but on board. A small detail but maybe helpful? Best wishes and congratulations on an incredible achievement.

Owner

Thank you. Just the sort of detail we want to identify and correct.
