You can tell from this beautiful watercolour what an accurate eye Dad had. He confessed later in life that he never did measurements but could instinctively size up the relationships of objects and their proportions by sight alone. There is tremendous assurance in this early work and the procession of fence posts in the shadow seems a distinct reference to Cotman.
