An Arts Council touring exhibition, shown in Plymouth Art Gallery (May 8-29), Keighley Art Gallery (July 3-24), Cirencester Art Gallery (July 31-August 21), Bolton Art Gallery (August 28-September 18) and Hull Art Gallery September (25-August 16).
"This exhibition consists of twenty works selected from the Society for Education through Art exhibition, Pictures for Schools, which was shown at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in January and February 1954, and a further twenty‐five which were submitted subsequently and were selected by the S.E.A. The exhibition is intended to serve two purposes ‐ on the one hand to give children of all ages the chance to see original paintings by contemporary artists and on the other, to give local Education Authorities outside London an opportunity to buy paintings, drawings or prints at reasonable prices for the decoration of their schools."

The Society for Education through Art (SEA) held exhibitions from 1947 to 1969 as part of their Pictures for Schools program, chaired by Nan Youngman, to encourage local education authorities and other education institutions to purchase original works of art. Richard submitted paintings to several of these exhibitions, and sold a good many of them.
