England The North bridges buildiings chimneys city dark sky houses industry mills strong colour towns trams urban landscape viaduct" I have done several small paintings of Bradford, as I remember and dream about it. They have no topography. All those towns; Bradford, Huddersfield and Halifax, are, or were, superb. In fact, Wyndham Lewis called Halifax the Toledo of the North. I am at a loss as to painters thinking the North unpaintable."
We have merged records of three works all titled 'Northern Town', all dated 1965 and each with similar dimensions to create the provenance of this painting, but there is some chance they were separate paintings.
