Richard's 1932 diary mentions that one day he walked along the coast to Beer in Devon, about six miles from Lyme Regis where he was staying while finishing off the paintings for his 1933 Dorset Sea-Ports exhibition. He seems to have done several paintings from the sketches made that day.

Street in Beer (1933) was shown in the exhibition [Cat 25] along with Beer from the Sea (1932) [Cat 40] and The Beach, Beer [Cat 18]. This one, Beer Head (1933), is mentioned in his 1933 diary but does not appear in any exhibition catalogue we have found, so it may …
