This painting was a commission. The sketches below seem to be the source material for it, done over two visits in July and August 1972.

The picture shows the view from the back of Providence House, a private residence in Cowes, Isle of Wight. The last sketch features the house itself.

The painting depicts, among many other things, Redwing sailing dinghies racing during Cowes Week.
