This is a favourite of mine. I know and love Lyme Regis, and this image exudes a calmness that Papa appears to have felt and is expressing here. I feel that every time I see it. The fact that the slate facing roof with windows looks like a bespectacled and moustachioed professor is a bonus.
Originally titled 'Fisherman's Bay, Lyme' in its first exhibition at the Goupil Gallery in 1930.
