Study of Butterflies, Feather and Beetle

1918

In his sales diary Richard says the date of this work is 1915, but it is dated 1918 in the Fine Art Society catalogue for the 1983 exhibition Eurich at 80.

Richard's father Dr. Eurich collected beetles and butterflies. Richard sometimes accompanied him on his walks armed with a butterfly net. He obviously took an interest in the detail and delicacy of these creatures. When I visited the artist Kyffin Williams who once owned it, he showed me this picture in his house on Anglesey and I was struck by the concentrated care taken over this study by a 15 year old boy.
