The rotting fence is right in the foreground and the rubbish bin is on the edge of the composition. It is like holding a camera and moving forward to get a slightly different view of the same landscape. An added detail is the discarded page of a newspaper caught on a bit of barbed wire. It is probably added as an after-thought to give life to the composition. The Solent is darker than the surrounding land and sky perhaps reflecting the now …
