Digger, Lepe Beach

1975

An unusual painting technique for Dad here, rather like his late water colours. It is interesting how the material to hand affects one’s technique. This is drawn rather than painted but nevertheless has quite an intense rhythm as far as the middle of the picture and then relaxes away into the distance. The digger must have arrived at low tide so that it could drive round on the slippery stones below the breakwaters. A nice job for the workers and they are enjoying an extended pause on a lovely day, far from roads and building sites.
