Recto: Signed and dated lower right: R. Eurich '67

Aka: Isle of Wight, New Forest [Lawrences]; Isle of Wight from New Forest [RE sales diary]; Isle of White, New Forest [sic, verso]

Verso: Signed, dated and inscribed with title Isle of White, New Forest [sic] on reverse of the frame

England Hampshire Isle of Wight The New Forest The Solent The South bracken fields haze heath hills horse rider island mist ponies pony sails straight track view yachts

The title is slightly confusing. It means that this a sweeping view of the Isle of Wight in the distance seen as from some imaginary high point in the New Forest (such as perhaps Peterson’s Tower at Sway). The eye progresses from the heavy peaty soil and rich colours of the Forest towards the lighter green fields near Lymington and then across the blue ribbon that is the Solent to the ethereal Island seemingly floating on the water.
