Started in 1947 and then added to in 1967-8 and 1975. 22nd February 1947: “Have been painting snow scene during the last week, a memory of Pateley Bridge and round about. Hope to finish it later, but hardly feel it will be done in time for the RA”. He did not show it at the RA until 1952.
