Dad was 75 when he painted this picture. He only made very occasional forays into watercolour in his later years and the technique he used was very different from that of his early years. It feels as if the paint is dryish and unable to soak into the pores of the paper, except for the lyrical suggestion of the Isle of Wight hills. This dryness gives a texture to the sea and a feeling of glinting light.
