England Hampshire Lepe Beach The South beach calm camera fishermen fishing rods low tide men mud flats oil tanker photographer sail boat sea shingleRE's son, Crispin Eurich, was a successful freelance photographer. He died in 1976.
To me, this has always felt as if Dad added the supposed figure of Crispin to an already finished painting. Later, he painted another picture called The Photographer (1989) which (though still not looking like Crispin) has more of the feeling of what he was like. I can’t imagine he would ever have laid his camera down on the beach like that! What is particularly beautiful about this picture is the soft, airy colour of sea and sky and the juxtaposition of the vulnerable white sail and the dark tanker.
