England Hampshire Lepe Beach The Solent The South Isle of Wight bait diggers grey sky groynes island sand spit sandspit sea seaweed shingle shore waterThis wedge-shape of the groyne figured in several of Richard’s later paintings at Lepe Beach. He played with its shape as well as that of the shingle bank sticking out into the sea at low tide, and the layers of beach, sea and sky. He could treat them as abstract elements with endless variations, and at the same time see them completely naturalistically.
