This sketch is of a trawler but its title is recorded as "Warship", one of a set of five collected sketches drawn during RE's time as an official War Artist - four titled "Warship" and one titled "The Docks". The sketch may depict a fishing boat used by the Royal Navy but it looks more like a study for RE's painting "Whitby in Wartime" (1940). The breakwater in the sketch matches the one in the painting.
