16th January 1948: Started small painting “Twelfth Night.” Young cousin Hilary and my Caroline dismantling the Christmas Tree. I am painting it for the gilt frame (elaborate) with an arc top, size about 14"x14”. It will be interesting to get the painting at one with the frame. 1948 - 3 pictures for ‘Paintings for Schools' at the Tate : 1) Seascape, the Return (20x24”), 2) Two Tigers, 3) Twelfth Night
All three paintings sold - "The Return" for £35 to L.C.C. (London County Council), "Twelfth Night" for £35 also to the L.L.C., and "Tigers" for £15 to Keighley Girls' Grammar School which found its way eventually into the collection of Cartwright Hall Gallery, Bradford.
