The alignment of figures dressed for cold weather with others that are unclothed or nearly naked, and the tanker looming over the horizon, all add to the mystery of the image. Yet, despite these seeming distractions, there is something curiously settled about the painting, a quality no doubt established by the rigorous control of design for which Eurich had by now become famous.
